– the original Swiss scooter brand that launched a mega- trend around the globe.
It was during a lunch break back in 1990 when Wim Ouboter, a Swiss banker found himself in the mood for a bratwurst from his favourite sausage stand. The problem was that it was a bit too far to walk but too short to take his car or even bicycle. Surely this “micro distance” standing between Wim and his favourite lunch could be conquered.
Recalling the scooters of his youth, he set about making an adult version, a primitive scooter using the wheels of some inline skates. With his characteristic mixture of a kid’s desire to be hip and a grown-up’s application of technology, Wim worked at the scooter until its look, performance and compactness passed his coolness test. From that point forward the history of the scooter has been completely rewritten.
Wim and his business partner, Hans-Peter Bolliger, CEO of Micro Mobility Systems AG, attended trade shows in 1999 with their first professionally developed and truly unique scooter. It was a 3-wheeled model that they called a kickboard®. It ended up winning the Stuttgart Design Centre Design Prize that year. micro® then went on to sell more than 9 million scooters of various design by the end of 2000.
Following the introduction of the kickboard, micro introduced several other award-winning, best-selling 2-and 3-wheel scooters and kickboards, which can now be found at high- quality, leading retailers worldwide. micro continues to employ a combination of Swiss design and cutting edge technology – its formula for setting the standard for innovative, compact and portable lifestyle mobility products. No other Swiss design brand has captured the world’s imagination so quickly. Today, micro continues to deliver quality and innovation and is recognized as the leading brand for quality scooters and kickboards.
Micro remains the original scooter brand and stands for the highest standards in quality, design and safety. Nothing beats the original – ever!
Kickboard Canada Inc. brings Swiss design and ingenuity to Canada through the full range of premium MICRO® products from Micro Mobility Systems.
Having spent 15 years in Switzerland together with his wife and children prior to their return to Canada in mid-2010, Aaron White, founder of Kickboard Canada Inc., had become very well acquainted with Micro Mobility Systems and their products. In fact, their two boys, who were both born in Switzerland, grew up through a succession of MICRO® 2-wheeled scooters and 3-wheeled KICKBOARDS® – not surprising since the MICRO brand is so popular in Switzerland, where 1 in 3 households owns at least one MICRO scooter or kickboard! In their former home town on the shores of Lake Zurich, scooters are such an important part of everyday life that it’s rare to see a child walking to school rather than covering the ‘micro distance’ on a scooter. As MICRO scooters became an important fixture within the White family household, their admiration for the company and fascination with its tremendous products continued to grow. With his background in premium consumer goods marketing and business development, one can imagine how Aaron jumped at the opportunity to take on the responsibility to build the MICRO brand in Canada.
